December 15, 2019 Reply That Bean You Had For Dinner The only thing I didn't like about this lens when I used it was its tendency to flare, leading to a bunch of otherwise good shots with reduced contrast. Might just have been my specific copy though (second hand and I suspect one of the elements might have been a bit hazy). The focal range is perfect though, and the sharpness very respectable for a zoom.FWIW my fav UWA for landscapes is still the Samyang 12/2. Light weight and relatively cheap (so I don't feel compelled to treat it like jewelry), but still well-built and just compact enough to always fit in the bag. Those extra stops also make the occasional astro photo a lot more comfortable. No zoom though. December 15, 2019 Reply Andrea De Meo Wouldn’t an extension Tube solve the problem? I don’t shoot macro, so i am not an expert…. the 10-24 is my go to for wide angle, great lens… as usual great cideo, thanks December 15, 2019 Reply gotja Ah this fits well with my use case … Except I potentially need weather sealed and use compact ND filters December 15, 2019 Reply Qippy's Channel Love that bridge shot! 👍😊 December 15, 2019 Reply Brandon Look Nice review. I just recently bought the 10-24mm, and I really like it. I didn't know how much I would enjoy the ultra wide angle until I found myself shooting at 10mm a lot. Of course, if I had to choose between the 16/1.4 and the 10-24, I would, like you, always choose the former. (What a great lens!). Anyway, on a recent hike, I took the 10-24 and the 55-200 with me, and I found myself using the tele zoom for quite a few detail shots that I ended up liking. So, my landscape set-up is going to be the 10-24, 55-200 and the 35/2. And I will take the 16/1.4 for wandering around cities and junkyards, etc., where I can nearly always "zoom with my feet." December 15, 2019 Reply Ian Robinson Great review, I’m on the fence with this lens because of the 16 1.4 is Available you also have the samyang 12mm that is excellent and affordable December 15, 2019 Reply SoulK37 Great video and review as always, was interesting to see your kid following you around, anyway check out the samyang/rokinon 12mm f2, it can get really close to subjects December 15, 2019 Reply SOLVM Check out that Laowa 9mm. It is a fun lens with character. December 15, 2019 Reply The Adventure Nomad’s Informative video about the 10-24mm December 15, 2019 Reply Mike H. If the xt4 has ibis and a better battery I think I'll start slowly switching back from Sony. Renting the 24gm for my week off for Christmas so my thoughts can drastically change in a week. Lol. December 15, 2019 Reply Shreyash Anand There's a very prominent jello effect in the shots with the 10-24. Any reasons? December 15, 2019 Reply James Wong Would you recommend this for everyday and event photography? Also have you heard of the three f1.4 primes for mirrorless apsc by Viltrox coming soon? December 15, 2019 Reply Vincent Provenzano Awesome vlog, my friend. More like this. December 15, 2019 Reply Rodrigo P.C. It looks like a good lens, although a little overpriced if you compare to Canon's full frame 16-35 f/4, in my opinion. Great video anyway. Greetings from Brazil. December 15, 2019 Reply sam weidenbach Great vid! Beard is looking sharp! My 6 year old is also extra patient while dad is taking pictures. December 15, 2019 Reply Tom Gibson what about the new 16-80? Closer focus? December 15, 2019 Reply Kwyjibo van de Kamp You should definitely check out the Samyang/Rokinon 12mm f/2.0!! 20 cm of close focusing and a super creamy Bokeh. You get pretty much bang for your buck! That lens is gorgeous! December 15, 2019 Reply Danielle Fernandes the vlog content seems wonky, not really enjoying it December 15, 2019 Reply Twisty Firelighter I have been on the fence on this one – considering as a travel lens for a Thailand trip. I have the 16mm 1.4 (love it!) and samyang f2 (decent, but severe colour casting with my NDs). So I would either take both, or buy the 10-24 and sell the 12mm. I would never sell the 16mm. When I had the sigma 8-16 on the K mount I got some really dramatic shots but used mostly no wider than 10mm. Not getting your feet in at 8mm is an art of its own. But at 550g the weight for me was too much for a day's walking and shooting. Leaning towards the two lens set-up plus a telephoto, 16mm has WR for when I need it – and the option to go wide occasionally with the 12mm at f2 in a lightweight cheap package. If the elements do eventually destroy the 12mm, it is a cheap lens. Only thing is video – my only OIS lenses are my 80mm and 55-200mm. Neither ideal for family vlogging. December 15, 2019 Reply TJ Krueger In two years of lugging the 10-24 around in extreme-ish conditions for landscape shots, it's held up great despite a lack of weather sealing… I've heard it's sealed up pretty well but only lacks the rear gasket. Also, if you use filters it's easy to get 72mm… in contrast the 8-16 requires a much larger $300-$500 setup. I'm interested in your Laowa 9mm testing, I found it to be soft even stopped down but copy variation swings widely on it. December 15, 2019 Reply snapit happy Great video! I have been using the 10-24 lens for 3 years now, 16mm 1.4 is also used more than the 10-24mm lens, good points about the 10-24 lens over the 16mm are. 10mm focal length is a must have when shooting environmental shots to get everything in the frame where as 16mm can be limited to fit everything in, its a great travel lens if traveling with just one lens with its zoom upto 24mm,its got ois which lets you shoot at at 1/40th sec tack sharp.I find that i use my 16mm 1.4 more due to the fact that i always shoot close up everytime im out shooting so the 16mm 1.4 is a veratile lens and the weather sealing is a bonus. December 15, 2019 Reply during the meanwhilst love the shot at 8:20 🙂 I also love my 10-24 (I'm a landscape photographer) and it's the Fuji lens I will never ever part with. I looked at the 8-16, but the lack of a filter thread, the size and weight and lastly the cost put me off. December 15, 2019 Reply Frederik Grønlund Clausen Omg, what's with the wobbles? December 15, 2019 Reply J Durst My 10-24mm is my most used lens. Now with the 16-80mm f4, I can carry two fairly lightweight lenses and shoot most anything. They have replaced my 16-55 f2.8 and 50-140 f2.8 for many occasions. My only wish is that Fuji would update the 10-24 with WR and an aperture ring. My has a lot of internal dust after much use. December 15, 2019 Reply Keir Briscoe My most used lens by far. Ive taken this lens around the world a few times, destroyed by dropping it on the stairs in the London Tube, replaced it and continue to keep it on my XT-2 December 15, 2019 Reply Karl Volk For the exact same reasons, I bought the Laowa 9mm about three weeks ago. Tested it around the house, and it’s amazing. Beats my expectations. Close focus is sharp, even wide open, at least in the middle. And bokeh is very smooth and nice, like the fujicrons. (I didn’t evaluate the corners at close focus yet, but I’m not sure that ever matters wide open since I’ll want them out of focus anyway in most compositions.) Unfortunately, it has to stay wrapped under the tree until the 25th. 🙁 December 15, 2019 Reply AxCYeR i got the x-h1 two months ago and currently have the 35/1.4, the 18-55 and an old FD 50. i think the next one is going to be this one! followed by the cheap but alright fuji xc tele zoom lens. can't wait for the ultra wide tho! December 15, 2019 Reply Lonas Luna Basically the reason I have the 10-24 is I love landscape but don’t want to shell out the cash right now for the 8-16mm f2.8 😂 December 15, 2019 Reply Hessel Folkertsma Whoah buddy, that stabilisation is very distracting. Not a good look for walking video in my honest opinion. Very versatile photography lens though, but buyers beware: test the lens in the store before you buy! I’ve seen bad copies with uneven sharpness. December 15, 2019 Reply Cochise Hart Awesome!! I live in Highland UT. #livelifeelevated… How old are you? 6? 😂 December 15, 2019 Reply Francisco Silva Video very useful !! It encouraged me to continue to resist and control the urge to buy the xf10-24. December 16, 2019 Reply musclesakl Thanks again Andrew for all your reviews. They are SO helpful to see what a lens capability is really like. Merry Xmas to you and your family. December 16, 2019 Reply Stu Lora The handheld video parts made me dizzy…. December 16, 2019 Reply Aaron Ross I rented this lens a few weeks ago and had it for a quick weekend. I wasn’t able to use it for landscape (not many hills in Chicago) but took it out for city long exposures at night. Now I think I might be renting it fo my next landscape trip! Thanks for the review! December 16, 2019 Reply Scott Graham I had this for a few weeks last summer. I loved it but found it too wide for most things I shoot 🙃 December 16, 2019 Reply The Don DeLuxe 5:22 Great shot! December 16, 2019 Reply Lars D. Great video, as always! What about the 14mm f2.8? It’s a great focal length and I would love to see you reviewing it! December 16, 2019 Reply Ohyehah I thought I was going to die at 0:06, otherwise a great review! December 16, 2019 Reply Ar Paul the digital stabilization correction makes me really uncomfortable when I watching the vlogging time after 2:20 December 16, 2019 Reply Tom Aldrich Are you sure that jello effect is from warp stabilizer? Ive noticed it in other videos at wider focal lengths. Ive been trying to decide if I should grab this to cover video and real estate gigs. But it will mean holding off on getting the 16 1.4 :/ December 16, 2019 Reply Ian Johnstone Hey Andy, Never miss yr videos as a 10-24 owner – also running with th same Benro – may I have th name&model of th Ball Head yr using. December 17, 2019 Reply 34136TS Very nice summary – very helpful – much obliged December 17, 2019 Reply Nicholas Erwin I use my 10-24 for other stuff, not for just landscapes haha. I love it. December 17, 2019 Reply behindeachfilmgrain My first impression of this video is that you are back to ’old school filming’ Hahaha! Great shots and hanging out with your boy! If given the opportunity again… I would have been in the water to get that perspective you may have wanted! Maybe we can do a session in the future together! December 17, 2019 Reply 1spitfirepilot I love the 10-24 ! But I'm mainly landscape – I recognise that we have different priorities. Great video, thanks! December 17, 2019 Reply Jim LaShell Hi Andrew, I enjoy your reviews! I primarily am a landscape photographer and use the Fuji xt 2. My two main lenses are the 10-24 and the 50-140. For landscape I love the 10-24. it is wide enough and I find it incredibly sharp. Pleas keep the reviews coming. December 18, 2019 Reply aus sd Great practical review as always. Your comment at 3.45 about sensor dynamic range interested me. I do have a X-T3, D500 and D750. Does the Fuji have less dynamic range? Thanks. December 18, 2019 Reply Jonathan Fletcher Probably my favourite Fuji lens…..glued on one of my Xt30 's but agree that 16 1.4 has multi uses…and definitely warrants a place in any Fuji shooters kit 😀 December 19, 2019 Reply Scott Magoon Great stuff! For now I am sticking with the 18-55 for my widest focal length because I don’t know what I want to do yet with wide scenes. I am eager to hear your thoughts on the Laowa. It looks like a great value. December 20, 2019 Reply Jon Barbour No interest in the lens whatsoever, but I love your reviews and vlogs so what ya gonna do but watch and enjoy! 🤷♂️ 😊 December 20, 2019 Reply Add a Comment Cancel reply Your email address will not be published.
