December 16, 2018 Reply icewater00 FRANZEN:It's merely to say that the whole idea of living forever doesn't pass the most rudimentary moral examination. You have to think that the tech billionaire who's deciding to put a hundred or two hundred million dollars into investigating the possibility of living forever is either unbelievably morally stupid, or worse… like, the worst kind of asshole, imagining that, "well, other people have to die, but I don't have to die", and that's kind of the definition of an asshole. January 10, 2019 Reply ryansadventuresontheinternet Jesus fucking christ it's so nice to listen to someone who has the guts to speak his mind January 18, 2019 Reply Gang of Eagles It is such a joy to listen to him. One of my fave writers. He doesn't talk about day-to-day problems but about what it means to be a human being. January 31, 2019 Reply Troy Müller Franzen has a great sense of humour but he also has some important observations if you wait for them February 11, 2019 Reply Bobby I'm interested to learn if the guy who interrupted and said that Franzen's sentiments were unfair is the same guy who walked out the door a few seconds later. Hilarious. March 20, 2019 Reply Bobby There sure would be some caveats to living a really long time, but I'd take them! Food for thought: What if it wasn't about us but rather the environment around us. Living too long could give individuals too much power and influence over the world and the world wouldn't like that. That would put the world in a really vulnerable position. Thank goodness Genghis Khan is gone, the world said. And soon, so too will be Donald Trump. Even if there turns out to be no God in control, perhaps the world is still in control of itself. If it did create itself, then it would stand to reason that it could be in control of its own destiny. Feel free to use that. Just thank a "Bobby" in your notes. October 8, 2019 Reply Conner Fields "Whereas facebook is clearly a life-form, and clearly monopolistic in its intent, and clearly just behind…." October 8, 2019 Reply Iman Fani Never worry about immortality. Only stupid little tech kids may think that can happen. They are used to hacking and think everything is hackable. The real science meaning medicine and physiology is at a primitive stage. Even what we had as antibiotics dont work now. The entire medical technology is a business hype. It’s brilliant to watch in films. It’s pathetic once you get sick even if you are CEO of a tech giant. October 26, 2019 Reply Add a Comment Cancel reply Your email address will not be published.
