the system covers modern satellite communication technologies including analog and digital
modulation. It is designed to use realistic satellite uplink and downlink
frequencies at safe power levels and to reflect the standards commonly
used in modern satellite communications systems. It consists of an earth station transmitter,
a satellite repeater, an earth station receiver, an optional instrumentation and telemetry package and the LVSAT software suite including an
orbital mechanics simulation software. This pedagogical system comes with full-color

The Lab-Volt SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS TRAINING SYSTEM is a realistic system reflecting the
standards and modulation types used in modern satellite communications systems.
The transmitter of the Earth Station is designed to teach ground-segment signal processing,
modulation, and frequency conversion techniques. The analog modulation section uses wideband
FM modulation, allowing transmission and reception of analog signals such as video
or audio with a bandwidth of up to 10 MHz The digital link allows data rates up to
20 Mbit/s, including a 4 channel time division multiplexer. It can also transmit
computer files through a dedicated usb digital connection.
The intermediate frequency from the analog or digital signal is then upcorverted
to 11 Ghz for the satellite uplink Our satellite repeater station takes the uplink signals from up to six earth
stations and shifts them to a lower frequency, amplifies them,
and then retransmit them as the downlink signal. The earth station receiver down converts the
9 Ghz downlink signals and also includes the needed digital and analog demodulators.
The Telemetry capabilities of the system include remote power measurement, gain control, and
redundancy switching, as well as remote fault insertion and diagnostics to teach
satellite troubleshooting. The telemetry and instrumentation package
consists of the LVSAT software suite coupled with the needed inputs and outputs for the data acquisition, digital and
analog generators as well as the digital instruments of the telemetry.
The USB Data Generation and Acquisition package provide an Oscilloscope, a Spectrum
Analyzer, a True RMS Voltmeter / Power Meter, a Bit Error Rate Tester, an arbitrary waveform
generator and 3 user-configurable Binary Sequence Generators. Because the space segment is an essential part of every satellite system,
the Lab-volt satellite communication training system offer includes
an orbital mechanics and satellite software simulator that demonstrate various aspects
of satellite coverage such as visibility, footprints, elevation contours,
time of visibility, revisit time, swath, satellite constellations,
global and spot satellite antenna beams, and instantaneous
